Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s supporters must have heaved a big sigh of relief when the Cabinet reshuffle was postponed. They had feared that their boss was a soft target and would been moved out of Shram Shakti Bhavan, which houses the power ministry, to some Raj Bhavan.
Shinde became power minister for the first time in January 2006 and again in May 2009 but before that he had been appointed Andhra Pradesh Governor in lieu of a second term as Maharashtra chief minister. His supporters now claim that he is being targeted despite the substantial generation capacity that has been added during his tenure. They, however, hasten to add that this is the Congress culture.
