When does a prime minister-designate officially become the prime minister of India? When he or she takes the oath of office and secrecy, of course. But Narendra Modi appears to have seen himself in that role well before that. The official website of the Prime Minister of India (pmindia.nic.in) lists greetings and messages by him even before he took the oath of office on May 26. There are eight entries as prime minister-designate on the site before that date. That includes one entry on May 19 of Modi congratulating Nabam Tuki, who became Arunachal Pradesh chief minister for the second term, a day before Modi met President Pranab Mukherjee for his formal appointment as prime minister.
