Meanwhile, Bibek Debroy, member of NITI Aayog, has said in a TV interview that currency notes worth Rs8 lakh crore had been printed before notebandi was announced on November 8. If so, someone needs to explain why, nearly three weeks later, notes worth only Rs3 lakh crore has been given out. Everyone knows that banks and ATMs, even after recalibration, have been short of notes. A junior minister in the finance ministry has now said that new notes worth Rs25,000 crore will be released into the market daily from now. At that rate, it will take another 20 operating days, that is till the second half of December, before the balance Rs5 lakh crore worth of notes, said to have been printed and ready before November 8, gets distributed. As for the notes printed after November 8...
