Reddy to please

Most Congressmen are ready to kneel when asked to bend, and some quite happily prostrate. Congress party leader and former minister T Subbirami Reddy in fact gives out a visiting card with photographs of himself prostrating before deities in temples around India. But his recent attempt to ingratiate himself to his party’s First Family has not gone down well with the people of Hyderabad. After donating money for the refurbishment of a public theatre, located in the city centre, originally built by Telugu Desam supremo N T Rama Rao and named Telugu Lalita Kala Thoranam, Mr Reddy insisted that it be renamed Rajiv Lalita Kala Thoranam. Even his partymen are embarrassed by this gesture.
