At the Delhi Economics Conclave earlier this week, the world’s leading economists presented their views on complex economic problems like inflation and growth. But none of them had answers to the simple question posed by an elderly gent from the audience, who pointedly asked why the conference did not raise important issues such as the current policy inaction. That certainly struck a chord with the audience, which applauded loudly, but he got a non-answer from the chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, C Rangarajan. “I don’t think anyone here can answer that question," Mr Rangarajan said. Interestingly, some government officials were later heard praising the man for raising “valid points”.
