The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not coming clean on the Nihalchand Meghwal issue. The Union minister of state for chemicals and fertilisers is facing allegations of sexual exploitation by a 24-year-old woman from Jaipur. There are demands for the minister's resignation, but the BJP leadership is in no mood to oblige, arguing instead that the law should be allowed to take its course. If you remember, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had refused to get rid of Shibu Soren, a minister in his Cabinet, when equally serious charges were laid at his door and he was to face trial, arguing that the court should decide; further, he called for a "national debate" on such issues. So, have the Congress and BJP merely reversed positions?
