Among the first questions Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee encountered after landing in Kolkata following her eight-day visit to the Vatican and Germany was how she felt about the release on bail of Trinamool Congress heavyweight Madan Mitra. The former state minister was arrested in connection with the Saradha scam about two years ago. Banerjee steadfastly refused to answer questions on the release of her former Cabinet colleague. However, the Bengal chief minister's
co-traveller, Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, had a view - not on the release but on the arrest. It was "politically motivated" he said.
