Wireless crime-fighting has taken off, thanks to cell phones, cameras and global positioning system. And it seems to have found application in the most unlikely of circumstances. A directive issued by the circle officer of Mohanlalganj, on the outskirts of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, requires all farmers in the region to take a picture with their livestock and submit it at the local police station as proof of ownership. The move will ostensibly help in resolving the rising cattle-ownership disputes in the region by making identification of the rightful owner easier.
