The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked all its ministers to visit at least two places in two states to mark 70 years of India's independence. The elaborate weeklong programme will begin on August 9, the anniversary of the Quit India Movement.
The party has identified 650 places associated with the independence struggle. BJP workers have also been asked to carry out "tiranga yatra" (Tricolour procession) on motorcycles and two-wheelers. Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said everyone was told to wear helmets.
To a long winded question by a journalist on the government talk about the atrocities on Dalits, Naidu said, "Questions should be short. After all, Parliament is in session."
