Mumbai real estate prices never cease to surprise the city’s residents, but they still retain the power to shock occasionally. Recently, one builder bought land from a slum dweller in central Mumbai at Rs 1 crore a room. The sweeper who owned it had been living in the slum for the past 40 years and has now resigned his job and returned to his village. No wonder Mumbai is called the city of gold.
