Like other government-owned banks, State Bank of India (SBI) may be troubled by non-performing assets, but it remains the first choice among government employees. Till recently, officials and employees of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan banked from a Syndicate Bank counter that is operational on the premises. However, a number of AAI officials who were transferred from regional offices to the corporate headquarters in Delhi recently, refused to open new salary accounts with Syndicate Bank. This prompted HR executives in AAI to allow for the establishment of an SBI counter to reassure transferred employees.
