Shishir Adhikary, minister of state for rural development and a Trinamool Congress MP, is regarded as a tough nut in his area and is feared by the CPI(M) for the muscle power at his command. Passengers on a SpiceJet flight saw the softer side of the man recently.
On a Delhi-Kolkata flight, Adhikary noticed that an elderly woman was gasping for breath and appeared to be suffering from a heart problem. He searched for a doctor in the plane and gave the lady two tablets of sorbitrate. While the doctor went back to his seat, Adhikary stood beside the patient for another 15 minutes, till she looked better. The SpiceJet management later sent a letter to Adhikary expressing its gratitude.
