All indications are that at least one star could be missing from the 15th Lok Sabha. In the ongoing tussle between actress Jayaprada and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan over the Rampur Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, it seems Khan has managed to get the upper hand.
Interestingly, it was Mulayam Singh Yadav’s brother Shivpal Singh Yadav (who distinguished himself as a minister by aiding the recruitment of thousands of policemen) who made the announcement that Jayaprada might be asked to step down. Her stepping down is being seen as a signal to Khan, who has not made any secret of his disapproval of Kalyan Singh joining the SP. The subtext of the controversy is that Jayaprada’s name was forwarded by party General Secretary Amar Singh.
