On Friday last week, Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju found himself in the middle of another controversy — this time, however, not so much of his own making. Katju was supposed to speak at a seminar at the India International Centre, Delhi’s so-called intellectual hub, on his favourite subject — the media. However, the organisers – the Press Club of India (PCI) and the Foundation of Media Professionals (FMP) – could not decide on the format of the event. The latter wanted a panel discussion, while PCI insisted that Katju be the sole speaker, which was what Katju also wanted. The FMP objected and so finally, the event had to be called off at the last moment.
