With Pranab Mukherjee's term as president of India ending in July 2017, there is already chatter about who could succeed him. One name doing the rounds is of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. But it is unlikely the Bharatiya Janata Party will replace the speaker and let another Marathi-speaking woman become the president of the country after Pratibha Patil. There are no names yet from the Opposition, but many are saying the best person to occupy the post would be Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad. But he has been disqualified from polls for six years after his conviction in the fodder scam. The hunt is also on for Vice-President Hamid Ansari's successor. Ansari is the only VP after S Radhakrishnan to have got a second term. A third one is unlikely. Will he be elevated to president?
