In the five years that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been in power in West Bengal, it has used the phrase sajano ghatana (staged incident) to explain away any incident that put a question mark on the government or Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's style of management.

While campaigning in the state earlier this week, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi borrowed Banerjee's oft-used phrase and played it back at her: "Modiji aur Mamataji ladte hain ek doosre se. Pehle alliance tha. Mamataji ne interview mein kaha natural alliance hai BJP ke sath.

Sajano gussa hai, sajano ladai hai (Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee are fighting with each other. Earlier, there was an alliance between their parties. Banerjee said in an interview that the TMC had a natural alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party. The anger, the fight - it's all staged)."
