 The sheer size of the scam is mindboggling; the main accused has reportedly made a personal fortune of Rs 17,000 crore; one small cog in the wheel of crime, a sub-inspector of police, has assets worth Rs 100 crore.

 No wonder then that the total size of the scam is now estimated to be in excess of Rs 30,000 crore. To put that number in perspective, for a state like Maharashtra, which is in a fiscal crisis, the amount involved is equal to nearly two-thirds of the government
