Being the lone star in the party, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is not contesting from any seat for the upcoming Assembly election in West Bengal. But, she has fielded her close confidante Subrata Bakshi from the Dhakuria Assembly seat of Kolkata with a definite plan. Dhakuria is considered one of the safest seats for Trinamool and is a part of Banerjee’s Lok Sabha constituency of South Kolkata. If the party comes to power, Bakshi (provided he wins) will step down and Banerjee, the chief ministerial candidate of Trinamool, will contest from Dhakuria to get a berth in the Assembly. As a reward, Bakshi is likely to contest from the South Kolkata constituency, which will be vacated by Banerjee, to find a place in national politics.
