The changing times atop Raisina Hill seem to have affected New Delhi's diplomatic corps as well. German Ambassador Michael Steiner plans to celebrate his 65th birthday on November 28 this year with, believe it or not, a "Satsang". In an invitation to friends, Steiner's wife Eliese said the couple "would like to do without the usual celebration" on her husband's birthday this year. "Instead - enjoying the privilege of living in India - we have invited Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to grace us with a Satsang for an hour or so," she said. The Satsang will take place at a very earthly hour of 4 p m. The German embassy in general, and the Steiners in particular, have been the most generous of hosts on Shanti Path, the diplomatic enclave of Delhi,
and this marks something of a major shift in their hospitality.
