Senior Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha is unhappy with the party leadership for not being considered for the post of Jharkhand chief minister. Therefore, he lost no time registering his protest and quit as the BJP observer in Punjab. Admittedly, senior BJP leader L K Advani was keen for Sinha to be made Jharkhand chief minister in the expectation that he would govern well. However, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha was dead set against a “non-tribal” being given the post. Sinha also found little support among the BJP MLAs — though even his detractors concede that the former IAS officer, who had held the foreign and finance portfolios in the Vajpayee government, would have made a good chief minister.
