While the National Council of Applied Aconomic Research's (NCAER's) Business Confidence Index (BCI) as well as Political Confidence Index (PCI) have both fallen in July, the sole exception this time around seems to be the eastern region that is dominated by West Bengal. Since the region has not bucked the all-India trend like this before, it would appear that respondents of the region are convinced that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's reforms are going to bear fruit soon. BCI in the eastern region rose 7.6 per cent in the latest round in July this year, while it fell 17 per cent in the west. PCI rose 14 per cent in the east but fell by nearly half in the west. |
