While there's considerable debate about whether rural India is steeped in poverty, the numbers suggest it's actually doing quite well, with around a tenth of all households with an annual income of over a crore rupees living in rural areas; the figure is 15 per cent for those with an annual family income of over Rs 50 lakh; and over a third of all those with an annual income of over Rs 2 lakh live in rural areas.
