In November 2010, the government formed a High Level Committee on Financing Infrastructure under the chairmanship of former Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Rakesh Mohan. But when the committee’s report was released on Wednesday, it had metamorphosed into the Deepak Parekh committee. What happened? It turned out that Mohan was tipped to executive director at the International Monetary Fund. Thus, in July this year, HDFC’s high-profile chief was appointed chairman of the panel in his place. Given the short notice, the change was mostly cosmetic:officials in the know said the eminent banker only attended a couple of meetings of the committee.
