What gives? In the era of cloud storage and portable hard drives, the information technology ministry on Tuesday launched a DVD of its new software procurement policy. Many present at the event were surprised: With digital distribution gaining ground, most modern desktops do not feature CD, DVD or Blu-ray drives. And even though optical drives have shrunk in size, more and more laptops have dropped the technology to conserve space. Moreover, the IT ministry is helming the government’s Digital India initiative.
