Chhattisgarh's only medical college and hospital is infested with rats, and the hospital management has responded in the time-honoured Indian manner by floating a tender for rodent elimination. A couple of companies submitted proposals. The hospital management invited the executives for an initial talk and asked how their companies planned to go about trapping such a large number of rats. Interestingly, not a single company executive was in a position to explain how they would catch the rats. Instead of looking for alternate solutions, the hospital management thought it better to terminate the tender altogether. As a result, the rats, which have unleashed a reign of terror right from the intensive care unit to the kitchen, live to terrorise another day.
