For many, there are no regrets that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Modi lost out on a Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar. Had he got the seat it would have taken him out of Bihar and brought him to the Centre.

But who did he lose out to? Gopal Narayan Singh. The last time Singh won a Vidhan Sabha seat was around 40 years ago. He has lost the Nabinagar seat from Aurangabad district eight times.

His name has repeatedly come up in illegal mining cases. He declared assets worth Rs 40 crore the last time he contested an election. For the last eight years, he has been more or less away from active politics.
