Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah's statement that if his party lost the Bihar Assembly elections, there would be fireworks in Pakistan, boomeranged on him after the results were declared on Sunday. Many on social media said, ironically, that Bihar was now a part of Pakistan, according to Shah, after supporters of the Grand Alliance took to the streets bursting firecrackers. Pakistani newspaper Dawn's front-page headline on Monday was: "Bihar steals (Indian Prime Minister Narendra) Modi's firecrackers". But there were celebrations in Assam, too. At present, a Congress-ruled state, the BJP has made significant inroads and is hopeful of coming out on top after the Assembly elections scheduled next year. But the Congress, which bagged 27 seats in Bihar, is also hopeful of making a comeback.
