The job of being chief economic advisor can be a thankless one, as Kaushik Basu discovered recently from an experience at home. When his wife asked their cook if she knew who Kaushik Basu was, the domestic help replied in affirmative with an added comment. “He is the one who raises prices,” she said, explaining that this is what the neighbours’ domestic help told her about him.
