The Congress party had scheduled a special press conference on Friday, to be addressed by Home Minister P Chidambaram and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. According to party sources, the press conference was called to announce the entry of Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP’s) Tamil Nadu unit chief Selvaperunthagai into the Congress. Since the BSP leader has some criminal cases against him, and he is unknown in Delhi, some in the Congress felt it would be out of place to induct him into the party at the Congress headquarters. A more low-key induction is now planned in Chennai.
