Business Standard New Delhi
Has N D Tiwari decided to hang up his boots? After accepting Rohit Shekhar as his son, Tiwari, 89, had pinned his hopes on contesting from Nainital, a constituency he nurtured for decades, on a Congress ticket. Tiwari even travelled to New Delhi to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and plead that 2014 would be his last election. In vain. Thereafter, Tiwari seriously considered contesting the election as an independent. He gave up that idea as well after gauging the mood of the people in his old constituency. All the same, Congress top leaders kept a close watch on his movements till the evening of April 19 when the process of filing nomination papers ended in the hill state. Now, sources claim Tiwari may not contest any more elections but will work to bring his son into politics.
