Not everybody is impressed with the Narendra Modi government's pro-poor shift. During the BJP national council meeting in Kozhikode, some leaders ridiculed it as the government's "povertarian" shift. Some in the party believe that Narendra Modi led the BJP to a majority on the back of his promise of better days, that is, the promise of more jobs and no corruption. While no graft scandals have emerged during Modi's term so far, the jobs situation is abysmal. The BJP manifesto for the 2014 polls had derided the Congress-led UPA's "politics of entitlement", but the Modi government is trying to walk the same path. Not that the leadership is listening to these detractors within.
