Where is Chief Economic Advisor Raghuram Rajan? Why isn’t he talking when so much is happening in the government and the finance ministry? The problem, it appears, is a job overlap. Initially, Rajan was supposed to take charge in December this year – five months after his predecessor Kaushik Basu’s term finished – owing to academic commitments in the US. The government, however, wanted Rajan to join in August and he agreed. An understanding was reached to enable Rajan to make a few visits to the US between August and December plus a few weeks leave in October-November before resuming office in New Delhi in December.
