There's a tug of war on between the electrical and mechanical directorates in the ministry of railways for the prestigious post of Railway Board chairman. The post is currently being held by member (mechanical), Arunendra Kumar, as an additional charge, but was originally tipped to go to member (electrical), Kul Bhushan. But Bhushan's appointment was cancelled at the last minute because of the "cash-for-jobs" scam involving then railway minister, Pawan Bansal, and his nephew over Railway Board appointments. Insiders said officials from the electrical directorate were trying to hard-sell their achievements in various quarters to strengthen their claim as and when the government decides to appoint a permanent chairman. Insiders said that even IAS officials were keenly eyeing the post.
