Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Budget may have had a bonanza for West Bengal, but not all Bengal MPs are very happy with her proposals. According to Adhir Chowdhury, the firebrand Congress MP from Murshidabad, Banerjee has planned her gauge conversion projects in such a way that they will leave out only Murshidabad but broaden the tracks in the adjacent districts.
After hearing the announcement of a new train from Farakka, Chowdhury jokingly commented, “I have to hire two steamers and place them in river Bhagirathi. Otherwise, the train will fall in the water as there is no railway track!”
