A senior General from the Indian Army was on his fifth visit to China recently. He decided to visit a war museum. A guide/official was explaining the background and the history of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The Sino-Indian war of 1962 (in which India was so badly defeated that the Chinese didn’t even declare victory; they just called a ceasefire) is something the Generals of the Indian Army would prefer to forget. So rather diffidently, the General asked the guide: “Did you have some sort of war with India in 1962?” His reply was most diplomatic: “Oh no, that was within our own territory”
