To prevent pollution of the Yamuna in Delhi – as people keep throwing plastic bags with flowers, coconuts, etc in the river – the Delhi government erected a huge screen at all vulnerable points. It was lovingly painted a sparkling green for the Commonwealth Games. Hours after the Games were over, the enterprising people of Delhi surreptitiously cut the screen, so as to continue polluting the river. Meanwhile, in Chennai, the police commissioner has warned that – on Ayudha Puja – if people cut pumpkins on the roads and leave them there, they will be punished for creating a traffic hazard.
