Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had planned to fly to Kolkata on Thursday and had booked her tickets accordingly. But everything changed when BJP MP and editor of The Pioneer, Chandan Mitra, met her in the afternoon with an unusual request. His son was getting married that day and he requested her, “a prominent Bengali”, to attend the ceremony. Although the request came from a representative of the rival BJP camp, Banerjee couldn’t refuse the sentimental request and promptly agreed to attend the wedding and re-booked her tickets for Friday.
