CPI(M): It is politically motivated. There is no justification for the actions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Maoists as the land acquisition proposal has already been abandoned. |
TMC: What has happened in Nandigram is the brutal suppression of farmers' voice by a repressive Communist regime supporting capitalists. The violence has been instigated by the police by resorting to dispropo-rtionate force against a gathering of unarmed people. The protest was a silent one. The police fired on orders from the state government. |
Congress: The state administration has singular responsibility. Nandigram was dominated by the Congress and Maoists but in the distant past. It is the CPI(M) that has controlled the area in recent years. |
