After Suresh Kalmadi was asked to resign as the secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), the post has been lying vacant. Party President Sonia Gandhi has asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal to suggest ways to fill it up. Bansal, busy tackling the Opposition fire for the past three weeks, will now devote time to settle the issue. While Kalmadi was elected to that post, the party is not sure if it would require another internal election. Meanwhile, K Suresh, an MP from Kerala, remains the lone secretary of CPP.
