The recent bull- run has resulted in traction for retail mutual fund folios. A report by research agency, Crisil suggests that in the first two quarters of this year the mutual funds registered 4.6% increase in retail folios in the past six months, marking the highest rise since March 2009 roughly translating to increase of 16.6 lakh retail folios.
The equity category, which had posted consistent decline in retail folios since financial year 2011, registered an addition of 16.89 lakh folios in first of the financial year 2015 taking the total retail equity folios to 2.90 cr folios.
"Strong rally in the equity market and the consequent rise in investors' interest led to the sharp increase in retail folios," said Crisil in the report.
