1 killed, 12 injured in poll violence in UP

A 26-year-old man was killed and 12 others were injured in poll-related violence in Islamnagar, after which 12 persons were arrested, police said here today.

Block panchayat head Suresh Yadav and his accomplices attacked the house of village chief Dharmpal Yadav in Maujudinnagar village last night and fired indiscriminately, Additional Superintendent of Police Munnalal said.

He said that Dharmpal's nephew, Madanpal (26), was killed in the firing. Twelve others including Dharampal were injured in the incident. They have been admitted to a hospital in Chandausi town in Sambhal district, he said.

The ASP said a case has been lodged against 17 persons, of whom 12 have been arrested.
 

He said both Suresh and Dharampal were contesting for the post of zila panchayat membership.
