AAP to sensitise people in Ahmedabad about party at ward levels

The initiative will see AAP creating awareness among citizens regarding its ideologies and objectives

Having tasted success from its door-to-door campaigns in Delhi Assembly polls, the Gujarat wing of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now training its guns at the upcoming civic body polls later this year. The party is looking to replicate the successful model of Delhi campaigning by launching a massive booth-level organising initiative to gain strength in Ahmedabad. The initiative will see AAP creating awareness among citizens regarding its ideologies and objectives as well as sensitise people about the local issues by approaching them door-to-door at booth-level.

In a precursor to such campaigns, the party has launched a 10-day initiative called 'Swaraj nu Shukan' wherein volunteers will distribute salt among citizens at ward levels within Ahmedabad civic body limits to commemorate Dandi March and to encourage residents to call for self-governance.

"It was to protest against this salt tax and usher in swaraj or self-governance that Mahatma Gandhi launched the Dandi March on March 12, 1930 from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. However, after 69 years of Independence, swaraj hasn't come in. The two main oath of Aam Aadmi Party is to build a corruption free India and bring in self-governance for common man. We will sensitise people about these oaths," the party said in an official communique.

As part of the launch, representatives from each and every ward had gathered near Dandi bridge in Ahmedabad wherein salt was distributed among citizens in various wards by representatives. The 10-day long initiatives will see ward representatives consolidating volunteers in their respective wards and will distribute salt as well as conduct home-to-home visits. The visits will also see the party carry an awareness campaign about its ideologies. Party volunteers will also assist in getting proper solutions to ward-level civic issues. After the 10-day initiative, party workers will also submit a report on health and education status of citizens from their respective wards and discuss over possible solutions for the same.
