Achhe din to take time; 25 years to world no. 1, says BJP chief Amit Shah

To achieve this, BJP would need to win all elections starting from panchayat to Lok Sabha, he adds

Debarghya Sanyal New Delhi
Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah on Monday said the Modi government would need more time to usher in achhe din. The now popular phrase was used by Narendra Modi as a peg on which he contested and won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, and came to signify an all-round socio-economic development in India.

Speaking at the inauguration of BJP’s Maha Jansampark Abhiyan (mass contact programme), Shah said a mere five-year rule by BJP cannot take India to the “top of the world”.

The Times of India newspaper reported the BJP chief, who  completed his first year in office on July 8, also went on to clarify that the definition of 'achhe din' was broader than fixing "bijli, pani & sadak (electricity, water and roads) issues" and actually referred to the “glory India enjoyed before the British occupation”.

To achieve this, BJP would need to win all elections — “from panchayat to Lok Sabha” — in the next 25 years, Shah said, according to a report on moneycontrol.com.

However, Shah also clarified that in its first five years, the BJP government could reduce inflation, achieve economic development, provide jobs and remove poverty, secure the country's borders, and formulate strong foreign policy.

Even as the BJP clarified Shah's comments on 'Acche Din', the twitteratti was already having fun with it. here are a few tweets that sum up the social media mood.
