Social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday met Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, amidst speculation he will back the West Bengal Chief Minister as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

Senior leader and party general secretary Mukul Roy came to New Maharashtra Sadan, where Hazare has put up, to escort the anti-graft leader to his residence where the meeting between him and the West Bengal chief minister took place.

However, Roy and Hazare refused to say what transpired at the meeting. A joint press conference is being planned on Wednesday here to make the annoucement.

Hazare has already indicated he might extend his support to Banerjee and might also campaign for her party in Lok Sabha elections.

He had earlier written a letter to all parties that if they are willing to accept his 17-point agenda.

"We feel proud that such a senior mass leader has hailed the leadership of Mamata Banerjee who had replied to his 17-point economic programme which is being incorporated in the party election manifesto," Roy had said when he met the anti-graft leader at his village in Ralegaon Siddi last week. Hazare had lauded West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her simplicity while taking a jibe at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, saying some people take bungalows despite promising not to do so.
