The Congress today said the West Bengal government had become "non-functional" with the CBI probe into the Saradha scam intensifying and once again demanded that Mamata Banerjee step down as the chief minister.

"The Trinamool Congress government has become non-functional after being enmeshed in this (Saradha) scam," West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury alleged.

Chowdhury also saw an imminent split in the ruling party, saying "several leaders are trying to save their backs. A senior leader's son a few days back made some comments which indicated that a spilt is only a matter of time".
