A poster war has been unleashed in Chhattisgarh where Narendra Modi is at the centre of BJP poll campaign while Congress has prominently projected cut outs of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

Modi is seen with veteran BJP leaders Atal Behari Vajpayee and L K Advani in the posters seeking votes for BJP candidates in these areas, about 140 kms away from Bilaspur.

Be it homes, shops, school buildings and road signboards, they are all pasted with posters carrying pictures of the Gujarat Chief Minister.

BJP's main rival Congress is no way lagging behind and is engaged in a counter-poster campaign. It has put up posters with pictures of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders in Chhattisgarh politics.

"Congress is targeting wide-spread corruption in the BJP government. There has been enough examples of mismanagement and carelessness by the BJP-ruled state government," said Bhujit Doshi, spokesman, Chhattisgarh Congress Committee.

Chhattisgarh BJP leaders say Modi is a known figure in national politics and that local people, especially the youth, are very fond of him.

"Modiji is our party leader. He has also been projected as BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate. His picture is there on posters along with other senior leaders and local contestants," said Dr Dayaram Sahu, former MLA and Chhattisgarh BJP Vice President.

He claimed BJP will win more seats in the Assembly polls and form its government under the guidance of senior party leaders, including Modi.

"People here know Modi very well. Definitely, it will help in BJP's winning prospects," Sahu told PTI.
