A pre-poll tie-up between the BJP and Janata Dal (S) reached its logical conclusion with the latter bagging the mayor’s post and the former winning the deputy mayor’s post in the elections held to two top posts and standing committees of the Mysore City Corporation here today.
R Lingappa of JD-S from Ward No. 20 was elected mayor while BJP’s Mahadevamma of Ward No. 63, the deputy mayor. Lingappa defeated Congress rival R Ananthu of Ward No. 58 by 13 votes, he secured 40 votes and Ananthu 27 votes. Mahadevamma won against BSR Congress nominee Sameena Jabeen of Ward No. 3 by a margin of 12 votes by obtaining 39 votes against 27 votes.
Lingappa will be the 17th Mayor of Mysore. Their and the standing committee members’ term will conclude on October 8, 2015.
Following the election to the two posts, members were chosen for the four standing committees, taxation and finance, public health, education and social justice, city planning development and audit.
