There might be another rift brewing within the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after some of its legislators stonewalled (delayed) Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s ambitious project, the Rajasthan Land Acquisition Bill, on Thursday.
The Bill, which was supposed to bring significant amendments to the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, has been referred to the state’s select committee by the Speaker.
“The state Bill has created a lot of ambiguity. The minister concerned could not answer whether it was a new Act or amendment to the central land acquisition Act. The government failed to explain about clauses under which the changes were being brought,” said five-time BJP member of legislative Assembly (MLA) Ghanshyam Tiwari.
“The proposed Bill is against the spirit of the central Act and anti-farmer. Now the Bill will be thoroughly studied before we pass it in the Assembly,” he added. Political experts said Tiwari had been at loggerheads with Raje after being denied a place in the state cabinet.
