BJP National Executive resolution to laud Modi govt

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive (NE) meeting in Bengaluru on Friday and Saturday is unlikely to issue a stand-alone resolution on economic issues. It will, however, laud Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy initiatives in a comprehensive resolution, compliment the government’s efforts to push through economic reforms and stress that the government’s land ordinance was “pro-farmers”.  The tone and tenor of the NE is likely to be self-congratulatory, with the party winning key Assembly elections, barring the defeat in Delhi, while the Modi government succeeding in altering the national discourse from ‘corruption’ to ‘development’.  The two-day meeting of the 193-member NE will be attended by Modi, party president Amit Shah, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and other top leaders.  Shah is slated to brief the NE of the party’s success in its membership drive and its plans to bolster its presence in states where it has traditionally been weak. The party has identified Telangana, West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala where it needs to increase its presence.
