The Congress on Friday blamed the BJP and RSS' attitude towards community and society for the recent mob-related murder of a Muslim resident in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh.
"Dadri is the most dangerous and horrific incident. This is not just an isolated incident. It is an incident that is the culmination of years of work by the RSS, its related organisation, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the outlook towards community and society that Modi and his people represent," Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit told ANI.
"I think the vice president's recent statement is welcome and I am glad somebody has said this. It's a matter of shame for this nation that the vice president has to come out and talk about giving security and justice to people, from whatever community they may be," he added.
Dikshit further said, "I feel ashamed that as a human being I am living in the same society in which something like this can be perpetrated."
Last Monday, following the spread of a rumour that 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq and his family had consumed beef, a mob barged into their home and lynched Akhlaq to death. His 22-year-old son Danish was critically injured in the incident.
Akhlaq's family has maintained that the meat stored in their refrigerator was mutton and not beef.
